Johnson COVID-19 Response Update #15, 6/23/20 (Phil Scott)
The Town of Johnson, VT held its last and final weekly Emergency Management Team meeting. Vermont Governor Phil Scott spoke with the community about where Vermont is currently and where it is headed for in the future. Governor Scott signed Vermont Bill H.958; an act relating to communications union districts (CUD) into law live in the Johnson meeting. This bill will temporarily authorize municipal legislative bodies to vote on entering into a CUD. A Communications Union District (CUD) is an organization of two or more towns that join together as a municipal entity to build communication infrastructure together. For more information see Title 30: Public Service, Chapter 82: Communications Union Districts in Vermont state statutes. Phil Scott addressed concerns and listened to citizens highlight the need for the Vermont State Colleges Systems Board of Directors to have more representation from the northern regions of Vermont. They voiced the need for state offices to acknowledge that economic growth comes from keeping Northern Vermont University active for future generations. Citizens also brought up the plight that economic cuts can lead to an existential crisis; job loss, housing loss, being able to feed children. Across the board, economic cuts will be more devastating in rural Vermont than the dominating cities. “Are you willing to borrow the ways Keynesian Economics has shown to be successful in the past? – Eric Hutchins Back by popular demand, Hero, Aria, and Isaac Eddy sang 3 original songs to the town of Johnson. Perhaps the mantra of 2020 COVID season should be: “You gotta learn, learn, learn, learn, learn, learn you gotta learn! You gotta love, love, love, love, love, love, you gotta LOVE!” Thank you, Hero, Aria, and Isaac Eddy for putting the spirit of a strong community into a song we can all sing together as the world takes a new form. #johnsonvt #johnsonsb #jsb #selectboard #vtpoli #covid19 #covid @JohnsonVermont
